You have entered the Packing Room. Our copper comes in through the double doors. The finished products are lowered through the over-head trap door and are either shelved for pick-up or packed for shipping.
The work bench on the right and the hanging cupboard have been in place for 130 years!
The large kettle which you see to the left is a Swiss Cheese Kettle
- a relic of the 1 880s when domestic Swiss Cheese was made in copper kettles. Until 40 years ago these kettles were in use by the Amish in our own area and more widely in Wisconsin and Michigan. The last such kettle left the shop in the late l930s when the cheese makers began using stainless steel. One of these Cheese Kettles is in the Smithsonian.
