Dearborn Homestead Show  4 June 2005

At 9:00 AM on Saturday June 4 2005 my wife, Terri, and I set out from our home in Preston CT for the wilds of New Hampshire.  Three hours and twenty minutes later we arrived at the home of Dave Dearborn in Campton NH.  I was driving about 70 MPH and passing no one on routes 395, 290, 495 and 93.  I wasn't even catching up with anyone!

Dave Dearborn's is a private home and Dave started the show by inviting a few friends for a weekend of tinkering around. It became the nucleus for the Granite State Gas & Steam Engine Association, that was 34 years ago. There are only 5 of the founding members of the club left alive and Dave is member number 1. Next year will be the last of the shows at Dearborn's as he says 35 years is enough. The club also runs the show in Dublin NH the first full weekend of September after Labor Day and this year will be the 34th. It is purported to be the biggest of the New England shows  (This information sent by Brad Sears who is seen on page 12)

After parking we wandered onto the grounds and one of the first things we came across was our President's exhibit of model engines. Norm Jones is a very active participant in many shows throughout the summer months.
