Altoona Memorial Railroader Museum and The Horseshoe Curve
Horseshoe Curve Video HERE
As part of our epic (?) journey from Cabin Fever Expo in York PA to NAMES in Detroit MI we made a visit to the Altoona Memorial Railroaders Museum in Altoona PA and two visits to the Horseshoe Curve. The first visit to Horseshow Curve was a miserable day and the second was a beautiful day but with little train traffic. Well, now that we know where it is we can make another visit sometime. |

From the Curve we went to the Gallitzin Tunnels which are nearby. The small museum was still closed for the winter but I got some nice photos of track maintenance workers at their jobs. |
The fellow Terri is chatting with in the photo below is from Italy. He used his vacation time to come to the Curve to watch trains while his wife stayed in New York to shop. A fine arrangement to my mind! If you don't want to pay the $6.00 entrance to the museum the stairs are free to the top of the curve. |
